Grocery shopping with a baby can be a little obnoxious. Babies cry, fuss, and then scream or pee everywhere at all the wrong times. While I can't help you solve the pee issue, I can tell you what I did to keep baby Cedar happy while shopping. I talked non-stop. Maybe I looked a little nutty, chatting non-stop with a silent partner. However, my constant chatter always made sure Cedar was calm and happy. I know, because I remember the days I was too tired to keep up the constant chatter and his mood failed quickly. Tips for a happy grocery trip:
- Make sure your baby is fed, changed, dressed correctly for the temperature, and not sick. Check off all the above before heading to the store.
- Chat it up. Talk about the items you buy. Count apples out loud. Tell your baby colors. Hold up red and green peppers so he can see contrast. The grocery store actually provided a great baby learning experience.
- Let your baby hold bags of noodles, hear what cereal sounds like shaking around, and smell lemons.
- If your baby is old enough for finger foods, bring a small snack in a baby spill proof container.
- Don't bring toys. You can try. However, 95% of the time, if I brought Cedar toys, he'd continually drop them, then flip when I wouldn't let him stick them back in his mouth after they fell to the floor. Plus; great way to drag out your trip - stopping every three seconds to pick up toys.
