Today let's see two recipes - one veggie based, and one that's a bit sweeter...
Lentils or brown rice & carrots: This is a good hearty meal, and this recipe makes a lot. You can pour the extra into ice cube trays (about 3-4 trays). Mince 1/2 of a red pepper, and saute in a wee bit of olive oil until soft. Mix in 1/2 pound of dry lentils, 4 cups water, and 1/2 pound organic carrots. Bring to a boil, then turn down the heat and simmer for about an hour; until everything is very soft. Cool, then mash or puree, depending on the texture your baby can handle. If you're using brown rice: saute the pepper, then add carrots and 2 cups of water. Bring to a boil and then turn down to simmer - cook for 1/2 hour or until carrots are very soft. Make four cups of brown rice according to the package directions in another pot. Once both the rice and veggies are done; cool, then puree or mash everything together. Serve, and then pour the extra into ice cube trays to save for later meals.
Kiwi oatmeal: Grab 1/4 to 1/2 cup of prepared baby cereal or oatmeal. 1/2 cup is too much for one serving, but then you can save half in the fridge. Mash up kiwi in the blender or food processor for babies under nine months, and mash it with a fork, for more texture, for babies over nine months. You know what your baby can handle, so if you want it smoother or chunkier, adjust the kiwi. Mix both the kiwi and cereal together. Serve. This is a great way to make a sweet treat out of typical cereal.
