In the last post we looked at puzzle perks for your baby. Keep in mind that there are some safety factors to be aware of when it comes to puzzles and your little one. Because puzzles pieces end up in tiny mouths, it's best to go with organic or natural puzzles that are free of toxic paints. See the end of this post for safe puzzle options. Never give a baby a puzzle meant for older kids. The pieces are too small and can go straight down your baby's throat and are a huge choking hazard. Do frequent puzzle safety checks. Make sure your baby hasn't bitten any small chunks of puzzle off - I know it seems unlikely, but babies will sometimes gnaw at wood or cardboard until it breaks. Also, if your puzzles have peg handles, check them to be sure they aren't loose (and thus a choking hazard).
