Yup you read that right, according to CNN, "having a baby by a surrogate is increasingly popular -- the number of men and women using surrogates has quadrupled over ten years, with men fast taking the lead."

The CNN article, Single men turning to surrogates, is a really interesting read. I think mainly because we hear stories fairly often about single women having babies on their own, yet we rarely see stories of men in the same situation. The changing paternal tide may have something to do with the fact that gay parents are now (thankfully) deemed acceptable by a growing number of individuals and adoption agencies. The article reports that the majority of male clients interested in surrogacy are gay, but also that there is a growing number of heterosexual men interested in becoming a single dad as well. Hollywood may have something to do with this rising trend too. CNN notes that, "celebrities like Ricky Martin and Clay Aiken announced this year they had had babies with the help of surrogates." I think it's a cool trend. So often we hear things like, "Dads not involved" or "Dads not doing their share" - which I've actually seen to be true in male - female couples. Maybe this new trend, and the emergence of more invested and happy single dads will set the stage for all men. Maybe men in couples, will start to value parenthood more, as more and more single men place increased value on being a father. Read the CNN article and see a video. What do you think of single dads becoming more prevelent?
