One great way to cut costs at a baby shower is to make the cake yourself. Cupcakes are easy to make and transport, but a little harder to decorate than a large cake in my opinion (less work space). However, there are some pretty good tutorials on the web that can help you create your very own lovely baby shower cupcakes. I rounded up a few of my favorites do it yourself cupcake ideas.
Nesting Baby-Bluebird Cupcakes, Spring Cupcakes with Sugared Flowers, or Vanilla Letter Cupcakes via Martha Stewart. I really like the Vanilla Letter cake idea for a baby shower; you could use letters that spell "baby" or "girl" or "boy" - it's so cute!
The Hip Hostess has this great tip about how to VERY easily make the beautiful Fancy (but simple) Flower Cupcakes above. Even if you think you can't decorate a cupcake, you can do this one for sure.
You can try your hand at three easy Wilton ideas - Watch the Birdie Cupcakes, Expecting the Pitter Patter Cupcakes, or Puffed-Up Petals Cupcakes.
