Roly-poly babies: Babies learning to roll over or sit up need clothing that won't restrict their movement at all. Look for soft materials as stiffer clothing makes it tough to move about, and also find smooth seems and tag-free pieces so your baby's skin won't get irritated as he rolls around. Scooting and crawling babies: Babies learning to crawl benefit from a little knee protection. Try Baby Legs or sweatpants. Avoid loose clothing like dresses and loose pants because they can snag, bunch up, and otherwise hinder crawling. Standing and walking babies: Once your little one is walking, what matters most is his feet. Barefoot is handy for tracktion but not always perfect for cooler weather. If it's too chilly to go sans socks try some baby socks with non-skid bottoms. Outside babies on the go: If you take your walking baby outside it's ok to let him go barefoot so long as he's in a safe area (like your pesticide-free backyard). If you head out around the neighborhood or to a park make sure he's wearing comfortable and flexible baby shoes made for outdoor play and pants that are at or above the ankle to help him avoid tripping.
