Some babies love when they start baby food but balk when offered table food. However, by one year of age your little one can and should be eating some table food over mushy baby food.

What's the deal? If your little one won't eat table food, he may be having issues with the texture or taste. Up to this point he's enjoyed milk and purees and a little bit chunkier baby food, but these are very different from table foods. Try easing your baby into new table foods by serving tastes he's already familiar and happy with; say cut bananas, cooked beans and carrots, small chunks of sweet potato, and soft pasta. Place the foods on his highchair and allow him to pick them up and try them himself vs. you feeding them to him. Try mixing bigger chunks of table food into his baby food so he gets used to bolder flavors and the texture. Another helpful idea is to have him at the family meals (you may need to adjust your dinner time, but it's worth it). Your baby may be more likely to eat table foods when he sees everyone else eating them too.
