Studies show that music can calm your nerves, help you sleep, and even reduce pain. This makes music a great labor pain relief tool. While it won't work for every woman (nothing is 100%) music does make labor a little more bearable for many women. Tips for finding good music for labor: It's best to choose music you already enjoy. Head to your music shelf, or the music store well before labor and choose some music that you're already comfortable with - preferably, music that relaxes you or makes you feel better. You could also toss a CD into your labor bag that perks you up and gives you energy. Consider noise over music. Not noise exactly, but sounds. Many women find CDs of ocean sounds, forest sounds, or even white noise relaxing. Before labor day play your music choices (or sound choices) often. Focus on relaxing during the play-time. Later, when labor starts, playing the same CDs may trigger an automatic relaxation feeling out of you.
