If you're looking for a good way to relax during pregnancy, hot tubs and saunas aren't the best choice. Hot tubs and saunas are simply too hot for pregnancy. According to the Organization of Teratology Information Services (OTIS) and The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), if your body temperature raises to above 101-102ยบ F it can raise problems during pregnancy; especially during your first trimester. For example, an increased risk of birth defects have been noted in women who experience high body temperatures. Instead of a hot tub, you might want to relax in a regular bathtub. It's much safer than a hot tub, even if you take hot, not warm baths. During a tub bath most of your upper body remains out of the water and the water cools rapidly, both of which help you to not overheat as you will in a hot tub or sauna - both of which continually stay hot and thus continually raise your body temperature.
