Fresh research from the University of California notes that women who engage in tending children or befriending others release more oxytocin.
Oxytocin is a hormone, that when released can counteract stress and help a mama to relax. According to the study, men don't experience this calming effect because, "Testosterone, which men produce in high levels when they’re under stress, seems to reduce the effects of oxytocin." while estrogen (found in women), seems to enhance it. So although you may feel stressed at time being a parent, tending to your little one's needs may actually be beneficial for your health.
