There's no simple answer to this question. I'll give you a resounding, "Maybe." Some women DO avoid stretch marks but it has less to do with the things they do and more to do with their biological predisposition to stretch marks. For example, if your mama and her mama were stretch mark free, there's a better chance you'll avoid them. Another way women can help lessen stretch marks is by gaining a proper amount of pregnancy weight. Stretch marks appear because the skin stretches due to a large or rapid increase of weight gain. If you gain gradually and not excessively during your pregnancy you'll be less prone to bad stretch marks. Then again... some women will get them no matter what. If you gain the right amount of weight, if no one in your family had them, you can still get them. For some women it's just darn luck. Stretch mark help: Now, some believe that you can prevent stretch mark issues with the right cream or lotion, but that's never been proven totally true. What lotions can do is help keep your skin supple, thus less likely to stretch as noticeably (see cream options below). While many women simply consider stretch marks par for course of mama hood and don't mind them terribly, you can also look into laser treatments after your baby is born if they're really bothering you.
