If you are pregnant and experience any of the following three issues get on your phone and call your midwife or doctor stat! Early in your pregnancy - you have abdominal cramps: Cramping is serious business early in a pregnancy. If you're getting sharp and or painful cramps on one side of your belly and also have not had an ultrasound, you may be experiencing an ectopic pregnancy. It might be that you're just feeling crampy due to another illness or your belly starting to grow, but if it is an ectopic pregnancy, this can be deadly for you so you do need to call your care provider right away. Anytime in your pregnancy - you are bleeding: Bleeding can happen without any major complications during your pregnancy. Many women do spot some. However, this is still a sign to be taken seriously. You could have a tear in your placenta, be having a miscarriage, or have another problem. Later in your pregnancy - you experience watery discharge: Watery discharge near the end of your pregnancy could be your water breaking, even if you think it's too soon. You'll know for sure that your water has broken if you feel a gush-like sensation, but it's harder to tell if all you feel is a trickle, which is why it's important to call. Once in a while a baby will kick you hard, you may lose urine, and it feels like your water has broken when really it has not. Another sign that it's your actual water breaking is that you're also feeling contractions. In any case, because it's not always clear cut, if you're seeing or feeling watery fluid discharge, and it's not pee-like yellow, call your care provider right away.
