After you give birth is actually a pretty inconvenient time to try and get fit. You have to balance all your time with baby care which takes up a considerable amount of your life hours. It can feel pretty frustrating, because your health care provider and magazines all say, "Get fit and lose weight after the baby!" and it's just not easy to find the time to get back into shape. Here are some sneaky ways to make the time for postnatal exercise... Walk while your baby naps. You can wear your sleeping tot in a baby carrier (yay weight resistance) or push her in a stroller, but either way, with all the daytime sleeping she's doing, this is a perfect time to walk around the neighborhood and get some cardio in. Hint, walk as fast as you can to pump up the workout or try some hills. Get the sitter to show up early. If you and your partner have a weekly date-night, hire a sitter who can come an hour and half early. Use one half hour to go for a jog or workout in your bedroom, and use the other hour to shower and dress. Work your baby into your routine. Some exercise classes and gyms offer a playroom or infant care on site which makes it easy to go work-out. There are other classes that specifically work babies into the mix, such as Stroller Fit or you can even take your baby swimming. Make chores count. Normally chores burn calories, but not significantly. Try to work in some extra lunges, squats, and leg lifts as you vacuum, wash dishes, or fold laundry. See what other little activities count as exercise. How do you make time for exercise with your new baby around?
