The first trimester of pregnancy can be tough. Many women, even those in perfect physical shape and even those who are very happy about the pregnancy can experience all sorts of icky first trimester symptoms. Three normal first trimester symptoms: Feeling exhausted: Fatigue is one of the most common complaints of women during the first trimester. Building a baby is hard work plus your hormones are totally out of whack (including an increase in progesterone which can have a sedating effect). Feel better - try to slow down your normal routines, take more naps, go to bed early, and keep up a decent exercise routine. Extreme tiredness usually subsides by ten weeks so if you're still dragging after that let your midwife or doc know. Sore boobs!: Yikes. Your breasts may be tender or sore; sort of like how your breasts feel right before your period but sadly, longer lasting. Feel better - sore breasts usually stop hurting by 12 weeks or so but until then you can try avoiding underwire bras which make make the issue worse, go for bras with stronger padded straps, and wear a tighter tank top at night vs. your hubs loose tee. Excessive peeing: Most women think that having to pee all the time only shows up in the third trimester but surprise, it can happen during the first trimester too. Mainly this happens because your uterus is growing and putting pressure on your bladder. Feel better - not all women experience the excessive pee sensation in early pregnancy, but it's not abnormal by any means. If you're in this boat try to use the restroom frequently and DON'T cut down on fluids (your body needs lots of liquid during pregnancy). Try to remind yourself that this symptom will improve by about 16 weeks.
