You know how everyone tells you to ignore those pregnancy and birth horror stories that other mamas gleefully tell you? You know, the story that starts off, "I was in labor for 40 hours and THEN...." Those stories can scare the pants off of an expecting mama and in most cases I suggest ignoring them. However, in some cases hearing other mamas stories may help you - especially when it comes to preventing postpartum depression (PPD). Last year, a British Medical Journal study found talking with another person who has been through PPD can actually cut your risks of developing PPD in half. That's amazing. Talking to other mamas as a prevention method is the coolest thing I've heard of and totally medication free and cost effective - you can't beat it. So in the case of PPD don't ignore your pals' stories because it may just benefit you in the long run.
