You may think the flu is only a danger during the chilly months, but you can catch a serious illness at anytime of the year, so it's smart to know the symptoms. Signs of the flu in pregnant women:
- Nausea during the second and third trimesters. Since many women have nausea during the first three months of pregnancy, this is an easy sign to chuck off as normal, but morning sickness based nausea and vomiting does normally go away after three months, so if you are throwing up or sick after three mos, it could be the flu.
- During one study on pregnant women and the flu, 89% had a fever (an adult fever is over 101 F) and 93% had a cough during the early stages of the flu.
- The same study above showed that 85% of women with the flu had a profound elevated heart rate.
- Chills and sweats
- Muscular aches and pains, especially in your back, arms and legs
- Fatigue and weakness
- Nasal congestion
- Loss of appetite
