In one of the more interesting pregnancy and baby news breaks of the week, a 61 old woman, Kristine Casey, just gave birth to her own grandchild. Kristine's daughter, 35-year-old Sara Connell, had been trying (unsuccessfully) for years to have a baby. The baby is biologically Sara's and her husband's. Kristine, who did go through menopause ten years ago got pregnant via in vitro fertilization with Sara's egg and her husband Bill's sperm, plus hormone therapy. Last week Kristine delivered the baby by C-section and both Kristine and baby, a little boy named Finnean. While this sort of procedure can be risky, this birth went off without any major hitches. In fact, the Chicago Tribune notes that other older women have also helped their own daughters out by acting as a surrogate, so it's not entirely new situation. See a video about the new baby along with his happy mama and grandmother.
