You may have already heard that gum disease during pregnancy is serious business. Not only are bleeding gums linked to stillbirths, pre-term birth, gestational diabetes and low birth weight, but healthy gums can actually lead to faster conception. Now for a little good news though. If you find out you're pregnant and your gums are in less than great shape, all is not lost. First of all, recent research shows that gum disease treatments are safe during pregnancy. The research, although still in the early stages, was published in the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology and is encouraging news for mothers who enter into a pregnancy with gum issues.
